Employers, it’s time to stop asking cookie cutter questions like “Where do you see yourself in x years”, “how would you describe yourself”, and “why do you want this position”.
Asking these questions will only get you textbook responses that candidates have probably memorised down to a T. If you think about it, at that point, it’s really all just formalities isn’t it?

"Tell me about a time where you messed up at work. How did you handle it?"
The key to asking great interview questions is to ask questions that require a degree of critical thinking and problem solving skills. By asking how a prospective candidate made a mistake at work and the steps they took to rectify said problem, you gain a better understanding of how they approach issues in the workplace.
"What Would Someone Who Doesn’t Like You Tell Us About You?"
In terms of curveball questions, we’d say this one’s definitely out there. By asking this, you’re essentially testing the prospect’s humility and their ability to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
This question also allows the prospective candidate to practice self-awareness and come to terms with their shortcomings because let’s be honest - we all have weaknesses.
"What Do You Think of When You Think of The Word “Success”?"
This is a great question to ask since there really is no right or wrong answer. To some, success can be defined as making a certain amount of money per month, owning a large house, or driving certain cars. To others, success could mean affording the opportunity to travel to foreign countries and experience new cultures. Success can also mean to be free of worry and to live life on one’s own terms. No matter the prospect’s answer, this will then allow you to better gauge, understand, and evaluate their values and goals with the company’s.
