From the airy glasshouse-inspired décor of Jibby By The Park to the minimal warm-toned Experience store of Root Remedies (@rootremedies), chances are that you’re already familiar with the interior designing works of Wunderwall Design and have taken a few snapshots yourself of their beautifully laid out sets. We talked to the masterminds behind these Insta-worthy designs and how they navigate their creative process.
Are you guys diehard Oasis fans or is there perhaps another reason behind the name of your studio?
We all grew up listening to Oasis and Wonderwall in particular was a song that is mysterious to us. We are drawn to the term wonderwall as its meaning is not clearly defined and is up to interpretation. In the Urban Dictionary it states that it is somebody you find yourself thinking about constantly, and you are completely infatuated with them. The final tick for us was the word ‘wall’ that relates directly to our profession.
What are some things the studio considers before designing a particular space?
A common for us is ‘intentions’; what is the client’s intention for the space and what is our design intent for the user experience?
Your favourite project thus far and why?
This is very difficult to narrow it down as each project completed never feels quite perfect!
Interior designing can be very different from one client to the next but what are certain elements or values that run through all of your designs that make it uniquely Wunderwall?
Many people have viewed us as minimalists, but we would like to think that this is how we approach each project — with subtlety and humility in designing and detailing and that makes it uniquely us.
In your own words, how would you describe Wunderwall's aesthetic and creative direction?
Our creative direction is to approach every single project with an experimental angle and an aesthetic derived from subtlety.
What are your go-to top three accents/decor that are timeless ways for people to spruce up their space?
Top three things in our mind for a space would be: the control of both natural and artificial lighting, tactile variety and one piece of really good furniture!

What do you want people to feel when they are in one of the spaces you've interior designed?
We want people to experience a sense of journey.
What do you hope to achieve with Wunderwall in 2021?
Nothing much, just to continue doing what we do and hopefully it gives a positive impact to Malaysia’s design scene. With that, we hope to become someone’s wonderwall with our designs one day.
