Head To Garden Malls For A Coffee-Inspired Art Installation
Red Hong Yi has done it again with yet another impactful art piece — this time, with Nespresso coffee. Titled 'Kaleidoscope', the renowned Malaysian contemporary artist revealed her latest work at the Nespresso Boutique in The Gardens Mall. Themed 'Doing is Everything', the installation is made up of 7 mirrored panels that reflect the phrase and was created from 24,000 pieces of used Nespresso capsules, conveying the beauty and potential of used and discarded items in an effort to raise awareness on sustainability.
“I am honoured by the opportunity to work with Nespresso, a brand that continuously
encourages consumers to recycle, giving items a second life. I would say this experience is a unique one, as I breathe new meaning into ‘second life’ by recycling used Nespresso
aluminium capsules into a work of art. I believe that we each play a role in making a
difference for our planet, and through small improvements in our everyday actions we are certainly one step closer towards sustainability,” said Red Hong Yi.
'Kaleidoscope' is currently on display at the Nespresso Boutique and you can catch the talented artist from 9 to 18 April at South Palm, The Gardens in her art exhibition for more information about her piece.

When you're done with one market, just head over to the other (they're only opposite each other!). Vendors range from thrifted clothing, handmade jewelry to baked pastries. Ikano Centres' Initiative To Light Up Your Creative Spark
In times of turbulence and uncertainty, people look to art for healing and peace. Ikano Centres certainly understood this sentiment as they announced the launch of Creative Spark, an art-based platform dedicated to bring the creative community together through an arts mentorship program. The mural named 'Building Yourself', which kickstarted the launch in IKEA Batu Kawan in Penang, set an optimistic tone to symbolise a new beginning for the community and township.
“The Creative Spark project is just one of the many initiatives we will launch for and with our local communities across our portfolio. We aim to enable and empower our visitors to get involved, participate, and enjoy our meeting places across all regions...Our plan for every destination is to facilitate learning, provide inspiration and memorable experiences, as well as ignite connections within the community,” explained Adrian Mirea, IKEA Southeast Asia’s Shopping Centre and Mixed-Used Director.
So the next time you take a trip to Penang (or you're an islander yourself), head over to Batu Kawan to view its largest interactive outdoor mural for a real visual treat!
